Time to Blog
My art experience began along the edges of the cotton fields in Southern Arizona. As a child I would gather up the clay that pooled at the edges of the cotton fields and make little figures and set them out to dry. Now some 65 plus years later playing in the mud is over and I have gone on to try something different. But it’s not so different, surface design on clay isn’t that much different than surface design on fabric.
Ceramics were my main focus ,but I found time to paint in watercolors and oils, dabble in silversmithing, and put together an occasional quilt while being bookkeeper, bill collector, and basically boss of our family HVAC company. In 2012 we found out my husband had Parkinson’s, our life was gong to change. But Parkinson’s being what it is, we had no idea when the change would happen. In 2019 we had to retire and move to a more manageable environment. Even though it’s not assisted living , it’s close. We spend a lot of time going to doctor’s appointments and I spend a lot of time dreaming up and creating fabric designs and quilt panels. Love my iPad, it’s really hard to drag painting supplies into the doctor’s office waiting rooms.
My great Grandmother Martin taught me how to quilt by hand sewing when I was around 7 years old. By age 8, I was on the sewing machine, would make doll quilts and doll clothes. By the time 8th grade came around I was making all my own clothes. This continued well into the 1990’s until it was easier and much faster to buy clothes at a store.
In the late 1980’s I started doing art work for a Tee-shirt company. And this was when I started hand painting on fabric. Never dreamt there would be technology in the future available for an individual to create and have printed their own designs on fabric.

We are heading into the summer season here in Arizona, that means the air conditioner will be running 24/7 soon. All my pottery equipment is gone from the studio. A bit sad, but the physical aspects of doing pottery is just too great. So, all my focus will be on creating designs for fabric surfaces. There are a few quilts that need to be finished and hope to have some on-line classes created for the next winter Wellton Mohawk Artist Guild season. So , stay tuned.

It was 126˚ yesterday, that’s hot! It seems as though my efforts are fruitless, but I keep trying. There has been new designs added to my Spoonflower and Raspberry Creek shops. Have reopened my Red Bubble shop and woking on getting more designs uploaded to that site.
I have been making items for the winter season Farmer’s Market. It has taken some getting used to, changing from a Summer to Winter selling season. We will be having a Desert Rat Arts and Crafts Blast , Nov. 4th at Legacy Feed Store , 9 to 1. That will give the Desert Rats a jump on the season. For those who don’t know what a Desert Rat is, it’s a person who can’t afford to run or fly up north for the hot months in Arizona.

We made it through the summer heat, the thermometer reached 130 this year. Spent most the summer creating fabric designs and sewing quilts. Even made my granddaughter a dress out of knit fabric. Knits are some thing new for me. Need a little more practice.
